Hello. I’m Amy Shapiro.

Equipped with extensive experience as an executive coach, non-profit consultant, and interim director, I bring a diversified set of skills and knowledge.

I attained my Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Southern California, specializing in non-profit, public, and organizational management.

Further enriching my credentials, I completed my Coach Training Program at the Co-Active Training Institute and acquired several certificates crucial to my work in the non-profit and interim management sector.

I'm proud to be the Principal of The Birdie Alliance, where I engage in executive coaching, consulting, and interim management.

Throughout my career, I've been privileged to support my coaching clients in reaching their objectives and overcoming challenges.

I've worked with esteemed institutions like The Museum of Tolerance, Young and Healthy, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and Ryman Arts, aiding their successful leadership transitions.

My core passion lies in supporting individuals and organizations in realizing their fullest potential, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and leadership excellence.

Why I Choose to Become an Executive Coach

I was inspired to become an executive coach when I realized its transformative effect in the workplace.

I had the fortune of being mentored by two exemplary executive coaches during pivotal moments in my career — once as I acclimated to my “dream job” — and again, years later, during a period of extreme burnout.

In both instances, the influence was exceptional.

My motivation is to provide life-changing experiences similar to the support I received, which led me to embark on my coaching journey.

My Non-Profit & Museum Interim Management Experience

I bring nearly two decades of experience in the non-profit sector, inclusive of administrative oversight, fiscal accountability, fundraising, event management, human resources, and board development.

With over 15 years of direct supervisory experience, I am passionate about nurturing a company culture emphasizing professional development, mentorship, and progressive responsibility.

In addition, I have 10 years of expertise in museum management, spanning retail operations, facilities, security, and exhibition programs.

My passion is assisting organizations through critical leadership transitions.

I utilize my coaching background to prepare the board and staff for new leadership, manage daily operations, and produce a comprehensive recommendation report.

My Core Beliefs

My ethos centers on empowering and nurturing those around me.

Early in my career, a mentor I greatly respected encouraged me to always remember to uplift everyone around me and to never let my insecurities hamper this process, as so many do. She promised it would serve me well, and it has.

This philosophy continues to guide me today.

I chose to venture into the non-profit sector because I was driven by a deep-rooted belief in equity and fairness.

I am fulfilled by associating with organizations that strive to establish an even playing field.

Every collaboration, whether coaching or interim projects, reflects this ethos.

The Story Behind The Birdie Alliance Name

Choosing a name for my venture wasn't just a matter of branding; it was a heartfelt tribute to two extraordinary individuals in my life — my grandfather, Jack, and my late partner, Nick — whose spirits and values are interwoven into the very fabric of The Birdie Alliance.

Grandpa Jack was a cherished family figure and my earliest inspiration for entrepreneurship. His successful business endeavors never came at the expense of family time.

From my earliest memories, Grandpa Jack's affectionate words, "I love you up to the sky where the birdies fly," have been a comforting constant in my life.

An image that says, you're a special granddaughter.

These words were not just spoken; they were a lived experience, shared in the everyday moments — while he pushed me on the swings, assisted with my art projects spread across his kitchen table, even as he waved goodbye after our Sundays brimming with treats and adventures.

When miles stretched between us after I moved across the country at 12, his love bridged the distance through weekly letters and our transformed tradition — a heartfelt Sunday chat instead of our adventures.

Grandpa Jack’s words were more than a phrase; they were an embodiment of the unwavering love and support that has sculpted my life.

His diagnosis of Alzheimer’s came as I was just beginning to forge my professional path, preventing him from witnessing my career unfold.

Yet, his influence remains a cornerstone of my journey.

"Birdie" is a homage to Grandpa Jack's loving legacy.

Nick entered my life as I navigated the early stages of my career.

Despite his roots in the entertainment industry, he embraced my non-profit aspirations with earnest support and became a catalyst for my professional growth.

Nick led by example, championing the virtues of integrity and respect, and drove me to pursue excellence with relentless tenacity.

He was also funny, charming, adventurous, and brave. I always felt safe taking a leap with him by my side.

One of those last leaps was leaving full-time employment to follow my heart with the formation of this company (at the time unnamed).

Six months later, we lost Nick to lung cancer.

I say “we” because while he was my partner in life, he was an equally incredible son, friend, and partner to his clients.

The relationships he developed through his management company, Epiphany Alliance, symbolize the essence of collaboration I aspire to bring to my business.

"Alliance" reflects the bond I shared with Nick and the partnership spirit I cultivate with each client I serve.

The Birdie Alliance stands as a testament to love, legacy, and the power of meaningful connections.

It embodies the principles Grandpa Jack and Nick instilled in me — integrity, respect, and the pursuit of excellence.

Through my work, I honor their memories and their profound impact on my life and career.
